We're changing how you remember our islands
When people think of Maldives, they think of turquoise lagoons, white sand, swaying palm trees. Less well-known are our lush island gardens, the flowers blooming at dusk, and the scents woven into everyday island life and traditions.
Vilunü exists to capture our islands, the way we locals experience them, through a collection of contemporary scents.
Our Roots
Vilunü started in 2017, fuelled by a mutual interest in home fragrances and a drive to do something different. Taking inspiration from the nostalgia of island life, we researched, tested, and formulated scents for two years, at first in our living room, and then in the bare bones of our lab in Malé. After months of trial and error, and multiple rounds of testing, in January 2020, we launched our flagship scent, Tangerine & Guava Leaf, as a reed diffuser.
Formulated locally in Maldives
Founded and run by two Maldivian women, Aish and Immi, the brand is very much a reflection of both our worlds coming together.

Aish has a background in chemistry and a deep enthusiasm for formulation. Her knowledge gives our products their grounding in quality and science, along with her knowledge of Maldivian plants, passed down through stories from her grandparents and relatives about how scenting was practiced in the early days. Immi has a background in design and brand consultations, with a strong instinct for storytelling. Her knowledge is the reason why Vilunü has always led with local stories first, and product second.

This local, personal grounding runs through everything we make. We have formulated, blended, and tested every scent ourselves at our own lab in Malé since day one.

Our aim has always been to tell the story Maldives through scent and our products. Every scent we've made starts the same way, with reference to a memory, a ritual, or a specific moment from island life. As you browse through our site, we hope you learn something new about our islands, and the wonderful stories they have to offer.
